THE JOURNEY
THE JOURNEY
A life can change direction in a moment.
Sometimes violently. Sometimes quietly. Sometimes both.
A LIFE THAT REFUSED TO BE CONTAINED.
From growing up in the wide-open spaces of southern Africa, Phil has always struggled with being constrained. At school, that sometimes got him into trouble. He was quite capable of collecting more than his fair share of lashes simply because he refused to be contained by rules that didn't make sense to him.
That same quality followed him into adulthood.
The conventional path never seemed to fit for long. Computers, banking, adventure, river guiding, business, family and archery — each became part of the journey, but none ever completely defined him.
Even the small things seemed to say the same thing.
At university, he became known as No Shoes, because he simply preferred walking barefoot. He did things his own way, not to rebel for the sake of rebellion, but because it felt natural to remain true to himself.
Always curious. Always exploring. Always pushing at the edges of what seemed possible.
Some turns in the journey were chosen.
Others were forced upon him.
And some only revealed their meaning much later.
There have been moments of survival, moments of loss, moments of extraordinary beauty, and moments when life seemed to open into something far larger than expected.
Through it all, another journey has been unfolding underneath the visible one.
A journey inward.
A movement from what we were taught to accept, through curiosity and exploration, and towards a different kind of knowing.
A knowing that, once glimpsed, can change everything. A sense that we are not alone in this journey — that somehow, beneath the noise and chaos, we are being carried, and that we are directly connected to something far greater than ourselves.
And perhaps the journey is not about arriving somewhere at all.
Perhaps it is about becoming increasingly willing to see what has been there all along.
The journey continues.
