GUIDING

GUIDING

Life is a beautiful journey.

And like a river, it has a life of its own.

There are quiet stretches where the water seems almost still, and there are rapids that demand everything you've got. There are shallows and depths, waterfalls and wide, tranquil pools. Sometimes the river narrows into a fast-moving gorge; sometimes it opens into a vast expanse where you can finally breathe.

And all around us, there is beauty, mystery and possibility — much of it visible, and much of it hidden beneath the surface.

I've spent many years navigating the tumultuous, unpredictable and sometimes bloody extraordinary river of my own life. I've hit rocks, been swept into currents I didn't expect, found myself in places I never intended to go, and occasionally discovered the most beautiful stretches of water simply by letting the river carry me.

I've learned that sometimes we need to paddle hard. Sometimes we need to stop paddling altogether. Sometimes we need to choose a line and commit to it, and sometimes the wisest thing we can do is pull into an eddy, catch our breath and look at the river from a different perspective.

I've also learned that a guide doesn't always tell you where to go. Sometimes a guide simply helps you notice what is already there.

I might point up and show you the fish eagle you hadn't seen, perched on a low branch over the river.

I might point beyond the bank and help you spot the giraffe hidden among the trees, quietly chewing on an acacia.

I might point out the elephants about to cross the river, or the lily trotter stepping across the floating leaves, or the beautiful call echoing across the water — and give a name to something you were hearing without knowing what it was.

To help you look somewhere you weren't looking.

To ask a question you hadn't thought to ask.

To offer a perspective from outside the environment you've become accustomed to.

And then what you do with it is entirely up to you.

Because it's your river, and you're the one who gets to decide where you go.

I'm not a psychologist. I'm not a therapist. I don't have a doctorate.

I'm simply a guide, sharing what I've learned through my own experience and offering another perspective when it might help.
